Welcome to Operation Brown Trout (OBT) and thank you for visiting. First a little back story. What trout enthusiast doesn't enjoy the heart pounding battle a beautiful Brown can give you? Lake Almanor is regarded as one of the top destinations in Northern California to catch these beautiful fish, with their robust population being maintained by both natural spawning as well as plants conducted by CDFW. The Almanor Fishing Association (AFA) has been pen raising and releasing as many as 50,000 Rainbow Trout per year in the waters of the lake and their pen project has be recognized as one of the oldest, most successful in the state. In recent years AFA, with the help of private partners has added Brown Trout to their pen raised program and in 2020 comissioned the building and instalation of two additional pens to rear these fish. In just the first few years, AFA has had a hand in putting a staggering 40,000 Browns into Lake Almanor. The mission of OBT is to support AFA's efforts to put even more Browns into Lake Almanor by raising awareness and helping to cover expenses related to feeding and raising these fish. A portion of all the proceeds raised by sales of the merchandise found below will go directly to AFA for that purpose.
